Belgian and Luxembourgian initiatives in the Virunga Volcanic Province and in the Kivu region are mainly coordinated by the Royal Museum for Central Africa, the European Center for Geodynamics and Seismology and the National Museum of Natural History of Luxembourg.

Other scientists regularly collaborate with these three institutions, forming a multidisciplinary expertise on the Virunga region since 2005.
